About The Judy Project

Judy was my grandmother; she loved emerald green, could turn any regular day into an occasion, and loved to feed people. She also had Type 2 Diabetes as far back as I can remember. I always thought that because she had it, my mom would get it, and then I would.

Despite being a lifelong athlete, I thought my genetics were my fate; no one ever taught me how to reduce my personal risk of developing diabetes.

After college, I moved to Washington, D.C., where I worked long hours, drank a lot, and didn’t touch a green vegetable until I was 24. In 2016, I decided it was time for a change. I wanted to get healthy and start a new career in dietetics, so I moved to Colorado and enrolled in graduate school.

In 2020, The Judy Project (TJP Nutrition) was born.

Now, I make content and counsel young and middle-aged adults on how to reduce their personal risk of developing chronic diseases — things like Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease, cancer, alzheimers, and more.

Kara McIver

In 2022, I completed my Master’s degree in Human Nutrition and passed the Registered Dietitian credentialing exam. My previous career was in public relations. I enjoy functional fitness, baking, and spending time outdoors with my dogs. My three favorite foods are eggs, potatoes, and blueberries, but you won’t see me turn down ice cream or a freshly made donut.

Judy was my grandmother, and I started this business in her honor. If you worry about your health because of your family history, how you lived and ate in your adolescence or your environment while growing up, let’s work together to change your health trajectory.

I’ll never put you “on a diet”, rather, we’ll start where you’re at and meaningfully improve your habits in a way that makes sense for you.
